The Carmichael Show

The critically acclaimed The Carmichael Show premiered its second season this week to similar ratings it got in its three-week (and six-episode) first season, that aired during the summer. Tragically, getting a 1.0 in the all-important 18-49 demographic immediately makes The Carmichael Show the second-highest rating comedy on NBC. While a 1.0 is not that high, it actually still has a shot at a renewal. Stay tuned.

At first glance, the situation of The Mysteries Of Laura looks similar to how it was last year. The ratings are roughly similar in an admittedly difficult timeslot, and it could therefore get another surprise renewal like it did last year. Except it won’t. The situation is quite different in that this is a show that already has a history of retooling and budget cuts. It was renewed last year for a shortened season, and the results of the retooling would decide if a back-9 was a possibility. It turns out that it wasn’t, as only three additional episodes were ordered. Additionally, the show is owned by an outside studio and still miles away from syndication with 38 episodes so far. There is no hope for The Mysteries Of Laura left, it is a Certain Cancellation.
