ABC’s Nashville revived for Season 5 by CMT

Fans of the recently cancelled ABC drama Nashville can rejoice. CMT, the country music cable channel that nobody has ever cared about before, has grabbed national attention by picking up the ill-fated country music drama for a fifth season.
The show filmed an alternative closure-giving ending in case it would be cancelled by ABC, but the producers in the end decided to air the version with cliffhanger after all, in an effort to shop the show to other networks. Production company Lionsgate has been negotiating for around a month, and finally struck a deal with CMT. New showrunners Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick (thirtysomething) will now get the chance to resolve the cliffhanger.
It is currently unclear whether all of the show’s cast will return, or that cuts will have to be made due to a potentially lowered budget. There is also no word on when the show’s fifth season is expected to premiere.
