NBC has basically pulled the plug on the under-performing freshman show The Player by ending production. The currently-in-production episode 9 will be completed, but production will be shut down after that. The show will remain airing in its Thursdays at 10/9c timeslot.
With this decision, NBC has effectively cancelled The Player. It joins FOX’ Minority Report as the second (effectively) cancelled show of the 2015-16 season.
The Player stars Philip Winchester as a former military operative turned security expert. He is drawn into a high-stakes game where an organization of very wealthy individuals gamble on his ability to stop some of the biggest crimes from happening. Wesley Snipes and Charity Wakefield co-star as the heads of the mysterious organisation.
